This week was an eventful one with a new afternoon schedule, parent teacher conferences and some goodbyes. We got a new schedule for the afternoon activities in which the kids have an hour of study hall, half an hour of recess and the final hour they have extracurriculars. This changed our sports class from being 80min with a half hour break in between to being 60min straight. It seems to be working better so far but time will tell. We also had teachers meetings on Saturday morning with the parents so they could hear about how their kids are doing. The head people thankfully told the parents that the children are disrespecting us and not taking english seriously in the mornings as well as not listening to us in the afternoons.
Esta semana fue un evento lleno de acontecimientos con un nuevo horario de la tarde, conferencias de maestros de padres y algunas despedidas. Tenemos un nuevo horario para las actividades de la tarde en las que los niños tienen una hora de sala de estudio, media hora de receso y la hora final tienen extracurriculares. Esto cambió nuestra clase de deportes de ser 80min con una ruptura de media hora en entre a ser 60min derecho. Parece estar funcionando mejor hasta ahora, pero el tiempo lo dirá. También tuvimos reuniones de maestros el sábado por la mañana con los padres para que pudieran escuchar acerca de cómo sus hijos están haciendo. La gente principal agradecidamente les dijeron a los padres que los niños nos están faltando el respeto y no tomar el inglés seriamente en las mañanas y no nos escuchan en las tardes.
There is a family from Pakistan who lived at the center for about a year and a half. The family has a little girl named Mary who turned 3 this past Thursday. We got the great pleasure of celebrating her birthday before the family left on Monday. They just recently received their visa to go to Canada and live there permanently. We sent them off on midday Monday and I couldn't help but shed some tears for our dear friends. We will be neighbors with them though when we get back to the US.
Hay una familia de Pakistán que vivió en el centro durante aproximadamente un año y medio. La familia tiene una niña llamada Mary que cumplió 3 años el pasado jueves. Tuvimos el gran placer de celebrar su cumpleaños antes de que la familia saliera el lunes. Recientemente recibieron su visa para ir a Canadá y vivir allí permanentemente. Los enviamos al mediodía del lunes y no pude evitar derramar lágrimas por nuestros queridos amigos. Seremos vecinos con ellos cuando regresemos a los Estados Unidos.
We went out with the University volunteers on saturday night to a suburb of Quito called Cumbya. We got to meet some more students from the university and went up into the mountains to hang out. Cumbya is very different from where we live in Quito. It is a richer part of the city where the houses are very nice and people have more money.
Fuimos con los voluntarios de la universidad el sábado por la noche a un suburbio de Quito llamado Cumbya. Llegamos a conocer a más estudiantes de la universidad y subimos a las montañas para pasar el rato. Cumbya es muy diferente de donde vivimos en Quito. Es una parte más rica de la ciudad donde las casas son muy agradables y la gente tiene más dinero.
On Tuesday I went out to a salsa club with Youri, Eman, Julia and Marco. There was a little bit of live music at the cafe called "Cafe Democratico.' I got to dance a bit and talk with my friends. This late week night made for a rough next day of classes but it was totally worth it and it was a chance to spend more time with my dance partner, Youri, before he returns home.
El martes salí a un club de salsa con Youri, Eman, Julia y Marco. Había un poco de música en vivo en el café llamado "Café Democratico". Llegué a bailar un poco y hablar con mis amigos Esta tarde noche de la semana hizo un duro día siguiente de clases, pero fue totalmente la pena y fue una oportunidad de pasar más tiempo con mi compañero de baile, Youri, antes de regresar a casa .
On Friday we went out for a drink in Plaza Foch and on Saturday we had the despedida for Youri. We went to this fancy night club across from our usual Bungalow 6. At the despedida we got to meet some more of Youri's friends so now we know more people in Ecuador. Youri goes back to Germany tomorrow and I hope that he has safe travels back home. El viernes salimos a tomar en Plaza Foch y el sábado tuvimos la despedida para Youri. Fuimos a este club de noche de lujo frente a nuestro bungalow habitual 6. En la despedida llegamos a conocer a algunos de los amigos de Youri, así que ahora sabemos más gente en Ecuador. Youri regresa a Alemania mañana y espero que tenga viajes seguros de vuelta a casa.
